Module Description
Building Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation is one of the ten modules offered in our NITTP approved training programme ESG Empowerment Series – Environmental 101, a comprehensive curriculum that covers three key environmental categories.
*To be eligible for a NITTP subsidy , you must register for all 10 modules and achieve a minimum attendance of 70% across the training hours of all modules (see the table in Programme Structure and Outline). Upon meeting these criteria, you are eligible to apply for a reimbursement of up 2/3 of your course fees, subject to NITTP approval.
Module Highlight
This course covers the following topics to help to design sustainable solutions to reduce building carbon emissions, and to realize net zero carbon buildings in the future:
1) Policy and regulation highlights and updates in advancing net zero carbon buildings
2) Cutting-edge Low-carbon and carbon-neutral technologies for buildings, in the whole building’s life cycle.
3) Advanced building materials and building design to achieve net zero carbon building.
4) Carbon footprint accounting methods for buildings.
5) Application of digitalization technologies to building energy efficiency management and carbon audit. Practical highlights in building energy & carbon management, e.g., updates of HKGBC standards & certificates system.

Level of Recognition
Participants will receive certificates of completion for each module attended. You will also have the opportunity to earn higher levels of recognition:
- Green Business Leader – After completion of 1 course in each category.
- Green Business Pioneer – After completion of 2 courses in each category.
- Green Business Champion – After completion of all courses in each category.

Module Instructor
Prof. Dong Liang is an Assistant Professor at the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong. He focuses on applying principles of Industrial Ecology to fight to the challenges of developing sustainable, smart and low-carbon cities, with emphasis on the sustainability science & policies, environmental system analysis, and policies design under the theme of urban sustainability.
