The enclosed environment of most ventilation system in vehicles could trap and accumulate hazardous chemical/pollutant (such as Volatile Organic Compounds VOCs), bacteria and viruses. Currently, there are several common surface coatings for cleaning up air pollutants and for surface disinfection and anti-odor, one of them is deposition of a photocatalytic materials, which possess inherent photo catalysis for oxidizing air pollutant, and antimicrobial properties which can inactivate microbial contaminations on surface. HKPC has developed a universal visible light-responsive photocatalytic coating materials which can be adopted to various substrate materials by just varying the bonding chemistry. The new coating will be a hybrid coating that combines visible light-responsive photocatalytic materials with a matrix of silicon based sol gel coating.
